Tethered or Untethered that is the question?

So it’s a big question to ask if your about to purchase your new Electric Vehicle.
Firstly, what is the difference between a Tethered and Untethered EV charger? Well, the Untethered Charger has a type 2 female socket only which is ready to connect your vehicle charging lead directly in too, and the Tethered Charger has the charging lead with a type 2 male connector already attached.
The obvious benefit of a tethered unit is that you no longer need to fish out your lead supplied with your vehicle to get things charging. You just drive up to your EV Charger, roll out the lead supplied on the EV Charger and then just plug it in. Now all this seems great, it certainly allows you to spend less time outside setting up your charger, sometimes in the cold and rain and the overall process is far simpler but I still prefer the Untethered unit.
Ok I still need to use the charging lead supplied with my car and yes it takes a little longer, but I like the sleek look of the EV Charger without the cable wrapped around it. I also think that if the lead supplied with my car was to break or get damaged in some way I can easily replace it, but if the Tethered unit with integral charging lead were to break you would need to source the replacement from the manufacturer and then get a qualified electrician in to re fit it.
So for me it’s the Untethered EV charger but for many of you its Tethered, we all like different things but the great thing about the chargers offered through EV Home Connect is that you do have choice.
